The Real Deal."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a <strong><a title=\"Book Publishing in the Digital Age\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/culture\/archive\/2010\/03\/book-publishing-in-the-digital-age-a-reality-check\/36831\/\" target=\"_self\">link<\/a><\/strong> to a very funny piece by <em>the Atlantic&#8217;s<\/em> Michael Kinsley called &#8220;<a title=\"Book Publishing in the Digital Age\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/culture\/archive\/2010\/03\/book-publishing-in-the-digital-age-a-reality-check\/36831\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Book Publishing in the Digital Age: A Reality Check<\/strong><\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The most encouraging part of the post is its reference to a <em>New York Times<\/em> article (Read that <strong><a title=\"New York Times Book Publishing Breakdown\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/01\/business\/media\/01ebooks.html?scp=1&amp;sq=publishing&amp;st=Search\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a><\/strong>. An interesting\u00c2\u00a0breakdown of publishing costs.)\u00c2\u00a0that says publishers are finally admitting eBooks cost less to produce than their paperback and hard cover progenitors.<\/p>\n<p>That <em>truth <\/em>was already as much as admitted when\u00c2\u00a0some large publishing houses inked deals with Amazon and Apple iPad to raise eBook prices from the Amazon $9.99 baseline. The prices they demanded, while still high, were much lower than the price of their dead tree equivalents.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This was something they had been reluctant to do in the past, with hysterical publishing professionals justifying high eBook prices by citing shipping and storing as costs they still had to cover.<\/p>\n<p>Kinsley&#8217;s crafted a very entertaining, informative post.
