\"BlackBerry<\/a>Research in Motion<\/strong> broadens BlackBerry<\/strong> horizons by offering the PlayBook<\/a><\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0tablet computer. The Monday announcement came at a developer’s conference where the new full-color tablet is positioning to compete directly with Apple’s<\/strong> popular iPad<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 Proof of this confrontation comes in RIM<\/strong> co-chief executive, Mike Lazaridis’<\/strong> comment that the PlayBook<\/strong> would “offer an uncompromised Web experience.”<\/p>\n

That’s a dig at Apple’s <\/strong>unfathomable decision to ban Flash plug-ins, Apps and\u00c2\u00a0components from the iPad<\/strong>. (Unbelievable considering the near total web adoption of the Adobe Flash developing software.)<\/p>\n

The PlayBook<\/strong> features a 7-inch screen<\/strong>, Flash-capable video<\/strong> and a front<\/strong> and rear high-def camera<\/strong>. Thin at just 9.7 millimeters<\/strong> and weighing in at 0.9 pounds<\/strong>, the device is slated for a 2011<\/strong> release. No price for the PlayBook<\/strong> was mentioned.<\/p>\n
