According to a Digital Book World post subscription-based eBook provider Scribd has acquired social eReading platform Librify.

Kindle Unlimited will “cheapen” books

PCMag’s Chandra Steele writes that Amazon’s upcoming changes to its Kindle Unlimited eBook subscription service will make “books cheaper” but also “cheapen” them. In the new deal (decree?) participating Indie authors will only be paid for pages read.

Smashwords to allow pre-orders of unfinished titles

According to a GalleyCat post Indie publisher and distributor Smashwords will now allow authors to offer pre-orders of their titles for up to a year in advance of a sales date.
