The New York Times to Offer eBook Elitism

Excuse my cynicism, but what has The New York Times ‘Best-Seller’ list done for the vast majority of writers out there but create a false elitist, New York-centered view of publishing? Anyway, MarketWatch reports The New York Times will publish eBook fiction and nonfiction Best-Seller Lists beginning early 2011. This after a decade of the …

Readers Go After Amazon Writers!

Thanks Jorgen for a link to this Guardian.co.uk post that follows the struggle over eBook pricing. This adds to a previous story where Amazon’s UK Kindle store caved to publishers’ demands to take control of their own over-pricing. Now the readers are fighting back.

Amazon Kindle 3 and You…

Ars technica offers an in-depth look at the Amazon Kindle 3 that focuses on the machine’s human interface. Author Nate Anderson intentionally avoids the technical in favor of answering questions like: “is it user-friendly,” and “does it deliver the goods in a way that does not detract from the reading experience?”

Publishers Impressed by new NookColor eReader

Publisher’s Weekly reports that publishers attending the New York launch of Barnes and Noble’s $249 NookColor eBook reader were impressed by the new full-color device. Agency Pricing Hits Amazon UK Kindle Store

Thanks Jorgen for a link to this story at ebookmagazine.co.uk that describes the agency model ‘invading’ Amazon’s UK branch, despite Amazon’s vow to fight the encroachment. While I feel sorry for the …

Many thanks to Jorgen for dropping by with a link to the Telegraph.co.uk and a chilling story by Adrian Hon about the current state of eBook Piracy. (At least in his opinion. I, for one, think the wider public is less comfortable with piracy than Hon speculates.) I do agree, however, that the reasons for …

Our friend Jorgen dropped by with a link to a post at eBookMagazine.co.uk that offers some common sense incentives that could make the eBook buying experience more familiar and profitable for the consumer, publisher and eBook Store alike. The idea of bundling and cross-selling titles is nothing new, but it seems some eBook retailers are …

Good e-Reader offers a review and photos of the new Sony PRS 650 Touch edition. And it looks like good news for the device that features a 6 inch E Ink touch screen with 16 levels of gray scale. At $229 it’s at least within the neighborhood of some other high-end but cheaper eReaders on …

Kindle ‘Singles’ Coming to an Amazon Near You!

I think this is a silly re-branding of an already existing literary form, but there is method in Amazon’s madness. Check out this Pocket-lint post declaring that the short story and novella have now been renamed “Kindle Singles.” On paper, it’s a good idea since short and medium-range stories have traditionally been tough for writers …
