US State Department chooses Kindle.

ITProPortal has the story on the US State Department choosing the Kindle Touch as its eReading device for distribution to US foreign embassies. A finalized $15-million deal would include 2,500 Kindles with 50 preloaded titles .

Book Expo America Optimistic

Reuters reports on Book Expo America in New York where publishers, book sellers and authors took on an excited and optimistic tone to discuss a year of change for the publishing industry.

B&N says DOJ’s Apple anti-trust lawsuit will hurt book sellers and buyers.

According to this Reuters article, Barnes and Noble believes the Department of Justice anti-trust lawsuit against Apple and 5 major publishers will only hurt booksellers and book buyers.

Sony updates online presence.

GoodeReader says Sony has streamlined their online eBook store to make it more user-friendly and boost accessibility for the few Sony wireless readers they offer. Additionally, they’ve released a revised Sony Reading App to make wireless eBook purchasing available to the wide selection of tablets and devices on the market.

Phys.Org News quotes an ABI Research survey on tablets that puts iPad in the lead with the Samsung’s offering bringing in second place over the Kindle Fire. It’s still pretty early in a very crowded race, so it’s tough to bet on a winner.

GlobalNews reports that Oprah is slowly but surely joining the digital age now offering Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. I’m a little surprised that it’s taken her this long to offer an ‘interactive’ reading experience.
