New Kindle Owners forced to sign up for Kindle Unlimited

Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program is in trouble if a post at GoodeReader is any indication. It seems the e-Commerce giant is forcing people to sign up for a FREE 30-day trial of the self-described “Netflix for eBooks” when first activating their new eReaders, and Kindle owners can only avoid the scam by rebooting the device before setup is complete.

For the monthly fee, the Kindle Unlimited program offers very limited participation from legacy publishers and their bestseller lists, with most of the subscription-to-borrow titles coming from back lists and desperate self-published authors who are currently abandoning the sinking ship in droves.
